Day One

Posted by Sally Peters on

Well a long flight to get here, Indianapolis to Chicago, Chicago to Vienna, Vienna to Tel Aviv.  Very tired.  Spent the first night outside Tel Aviv and then today the first day of the actual tour.

Up early 6 am!  Nice breakfast then off to Caesarea.  This is where Paul was imprisoned for two years.  Saw Byzantine tiles from pools where they lived, amphitheater and lots of ruins.  Visited the Roman aqueduct.  This was the center of early Christianity.  Saw Mount Carmel where Elijah met the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18).  Then onto Tel Megiddo (23 cities all built on top of each other) -- Very windy and cold.  Then went to Nazareth and saw the church of the annunciation.  Beautiful and then on to the home of Joseph, where it is thought that he may have been a stone mason rather than a carpenter.  Town very hilly and homes built into the hills.  Drove to Tiberius where we are staying at the Caesar hotel right on the Sea of Galilee, which is not really a sea but a lake.  We have a beautiful view from our room! Tired and ready to crash.
