United Methodist Church
At Meridian Street, we are Christians who are excited to be part of the United Methodist Church.
United Methodists are the second largest Protestant denomination in America, with 11 million United Methodists around the world. Methodists have played a significant role in shaping our nation, and especially the Indianapolis area. As you can read in our history page, Meridian Street was the first Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Several of the first public schools in Indianapolis were started by Methodists. Of course Methodist Hospital, was started by Methodists in 1899 to serve those in need in our community. The University of Indianapolis and DePauw University are just two of several colleges and universities in the area founded by Methodists. Numerous community organizations were also started by dedicated Methodists.
United Methodists hold to the historic doctrines of the Christian faith. Methodists have been known for our emphasis on a personal faith, lived out in concrete ways in the world. We have open hearts, and open minds--and welcome anyone interested in learning more about the Christian faith.
As part of the Central District of the Indiana Conference, Meridian Street is connected to 1200 United Methodist Churches in the state of Indiana. We are proud to work with our neighboring United Methodist Churches to serve the Indianapolis area.
